Hip-hop artist Nicki Minaj has certainly rocketed to stardom in recent years.  Her music career has included a nod by BET in 2010, as she won Best Hip-Hop Female at the BET Awards.  But Minaj’s life has not always been easy.  She was born in Trinidad and Tobago and moved to the New York City when she was five.  Her father was a violent drug addict that at one point attempted to kill the family.  Yet, Minaj overcame early problems in life, attended the famous La Guardia High School of Art and Music, and her career blossomed after being introduced to rapper Lil Wayne.

Now, Minaj has a very high profile position as a judge on American Idol.  This exposure on American Idol has helped Minaj become a true fashion icon.  Minaj’s ability to successfully pull off a range of different looks has helped her get noticed in a major way by the fashion industry.  Frequently, Minaj wears sunglasses that feature a variety of interesting sunglass lenses.

High quality sunglass lenses, such as those manufactured by Arnette, Ray-Ban such as the Wayfarer, Prada and other designer brands are designed to last and make for a great investment.  Protecting that investment is important, and we can help!

I am a big fan of all types of sunglasses and sunglasses optics.  However, when I learned about some of these new eco-friendly options out there, I was really amazed.

First of all, I love bamboo! This wood not only looks sleek and sophisticated, it is sustainable and green as well.  You can now find bamboo options and they come with the same level of quality and polarized lenses.

I also freaked out when I learned about the recycled goods that are being made into sunglasses.  These materials go way beyond plastic and include everything from recycled beer bottles to whiskey containers.  And the sunglasses optics are first rate as well.  One of my favorites sunglasses USA companies is the Diamond Supply Co, which makes their sunglasses out of recycled skateboards!  Juicy Couture is even out there making eyewear out of plant-based plastics.

More and more people want eco-friendly sunglasses, but they also expect to have top-notch polarized lenses and sunglasses optics.  This new breed of company delivers!

Of course, if you really want to be eco-friendly, don't throw your sunglasses away if the lenses become scratched or damaged.  Otherwise, they will just live out the rest of their days in a landfill somewhere!  Instead, pop over to our shop and simply order some new polarized lenses.  We have you and your needs covered.  We'll help reduce your carbon footprint and make us all happy :)

Each year's Tour de France is an exciting occasion, as this race brings out the best and brightest cyclists from around the world.  The 2012 race participants included people from around the world.  While Lance Armstrong is no longer racing, there were some very promising riders from the US this year including George Hincapie, Tejay van Garderen, Tom Danielson and Chris Horner.  In fact, people are already calling Tom Danielson the "next Lance Armstrong!"

But have you ever wondered why so many of the cyclists wear similar sports sunglasses?  (No, they do not all shop at the same sunglasses store!)  There is actually a simple reason behind these similarities and that is that the high-end sunglasses manufacturers clamour to sponsor Tour de France cycling teams and champions like Bradley Wiggins.  It's a top event in their calendar to get their latest sunglasses out in on show.

Bradley Wiggins Celebrating with Champagne and Oakley Holbrook Sunglasses!

Oakley and Rudy Project Polarized Sunglasses

Two companies whose names came up a lot during the Tour de France were Oakley and Rudy Project.  Unless you have been hiding in a cave, you all know and some of you already love Oakley.  Oakley spends countless dollars to stay on the cutting-edge of sunglasses technology.

Rudy Project specializes in sports sunglasses and markets itself to cyclists as well as fishermen, golfers, and those involved in motorsports.  Rudy works to offer special features that benefit cyclists like an ergonomic design and optimal ventilation.

Making Your Sports Sunglasses Last

When you invest in a pair of high-end polarized sunglasses for cycling or for any other reason, you want to ensure that you have made a long-term investment.  While Oakley and Rudy Project sunglasses are quite durable, you never know when you might scratch a lens, and we get plenty of customers who are upset that they damaged their lenses but really happy to find high-end aftermarket replacement lenses that don't cost a bomb.

Here's what a customer from Germany had to say:

"These lenses are way better than my original ones.. Thanks for your perfect and kind service and the superb quality.. My next order ( have another oakley ;-) ) will arrive soon. best regards from cloudy germany...Michael  Karlsruhe" GERMANY 15th May, 2012

What's all the fuss about polarized lenses?

Are you wondering what all the fuss is around wearing Polarized lenses? Are you constantly perturbed by excess sun glare? Do you suffer from lack of concentration while driving or fishing, leaving you fuming in the end? It’s time you try polarized lenses and do away with the pesky glares that cause you irritation once and for all?

Polarized lenses have a special anti reflective coating either inserted in the middle of the lens, or more commonly sealed on the outside of the lens and are usually made from plastic or polycarbonate. This special layer is capable of blocking harmful UV rays from 360 degree angles, unlike regular lenses that only block UV rays coming directly at the lens. These lenses help ward off the glare from sideward, upward and downward angles and provide you with clearer views with great visibility in dim, hazy and super sunny conditions. They really are the best all round lens.

Here's why polarized lenses are so popular these days:

1. While fishing:

How often does it happen that you lose out on that fresh stock of sea life, just because the rays of the sun don’t allow you to concentrate well? The glare during peak hours can be a damper and it makes it tough to look beyond a certain point. Polarized lenses thus take good care of all excessive glares and allows you to see deeper into waters when the glare is reduced, so you can see those big fish.

2. While driving:

Polarized lenses are even worn by those who spend too much time in the sun driving. Thus drivers wearing these lenses don’t feel the strain on their eyes, even after driving for long hours. Often, the reflection of the sun from the back window of the car can be annoying, and you tend to lose your focus while being behind the wheel because of that and other glare reflected off the road and buildings around the car. Polarized lenses take care of that and they also come in handy while you are driving on a wet road and need better concentration.

It should be noted that polarized lenses comes with their own limitations, for example, they do not work on snowy surfaces, as the light is reflected in all directions. So you must not use them while skiing or moving downhill.

And now that you know the reasons why you should pick a pair of polarized lenses, don’t wait any longer. We have a new range of Ultimate Polarized Lenses that our customers rave about, so don't wait to buy a new set of polarized sunglasses, get a pair of brand new custom lenses for your sunglasses at The Sunglass Fix.

Ever wondered why you'd want to wear yellow tinted lenses in your sunglasses?

If you’ve ever worn polarized sunglasses, then you already know just how effective they are at reducing glare.  Likewise, yellow tinted lenses can also work wonders for improving your overall vision.

Those already contemplating lens replacement or scratched sunglasses repair will be happy to hear that choosing colored lenses is easy, quick and can, of course, help improve their vision.  People frequently select yellow tinted lenses due to their ability to absorb both blue as well as ultraviolet light.  Athletes and those who just spend a lot of time outdoors will find that yellow tinted lenses do much to enhance overall vision.

UV Light and Yellow Tinted Lenses

Those who spend a good deal of time outdoors at dusk or dawn will find that yellow tinted lenses can help their vision considerably.  Foggy and overcast conditions likewise help make everything you see brighter and clearer, since yellow lenses absorb blue light and UV light. They're great for fishermen out on the water in the wee hours of the morning or when you're playing your favourite sports at dusk like the owner of The Sunglass Fix, Craig Anderson, playing frisbee at dusk and well into the night every Monday evening.

Yellow tinted lenses have a range of benefits.  However, it should be noted that yellow tinted lenses do not serve to protect the eyes from infrared light.

Cyclist Frequently Choose Yellow Tinted Lenses

Those svelte looking cyclists racing around the Tour de France circut face the full range of  weather conditions and  every type of lighting condition possible.  Cyclists frequently choose yellow tinted lenses for the visual clarity that they provide, not just to look good!

In fact, outdoor athletes of all kinds often opt for polarized sunglasses with yellow tinted lenses, as these lenses offer excellent depth perception, as they filter out blue light.  This, of course, means that the blue in the sky is also filtered out.

Georgia May Jagger has been selected as the new 'Face' of The Sunglass Hut for her great facial lines and edgy, young, look. Madonna recently named her the face of her clothing Material Girl clothing line so she's in hot demand at only 19 years old!

Appears it does help to have good genes such as Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall as parents. The official launch of the new sunglasses campaign is September so we'll be looking at what brand and style of sunglasses the huge fashion brand has her wearing to promote them? Any guesses? Looks like she's wearing the a glam version of the cat-eye sunglasses with her pouty red lips, made famous by her father. Both Prada and Gucci have recently released a new line of cat-eye sunglasses. They're nearly as popular as the Ray-Ban Wayfarer's comeback at the moment.

Do you think she's a good choice for The Sunglass Hut?

National Sun Safety week begins this Sunday so are you prepared for this seasons summer UV Rays? It's that time of year that we're all out and about enjoying the warmth of the sun but it can also be damaging to our eyes if we're not prepared with good quality sunglasses with high rated UV protective lenses.

Statistics show that each year more skin cancers are diagnosed than lung cancer, breast cancer and prostate cancer combined, that's over 2 Million per year, a whopping big number for something that is preventable.

Did you know 1 in 5 people will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime? That's why it's so important to set the example for our children by taking all the safety precautions needed to have safe fun in the sun;

1. Wear at least 30+ SPF rated sunscreen, even on cloudy days the UV rays can still penetrate your skin

2. Wear a hat, there are so many great, fashionable options to suit everyone, there are no excuses!

3. Wear the best quality sunglasses you can buy for yourself and your family, with highly rated UV lenses for the best protection, you also want to avoid crows feet at the edge of your eyes.

According to doctors, while skin cancer is the most prolific form of cancer, it is also the most preventable and the most curable when diagnosed at an early stage. Starting young is the key to prevention because the sun burns young people get today can lead to skin cancer and other forms of skin damage tomorrow.

Take this Sun Safety week as a check to make sure you're all up to date with your sunglasses and hats for summer fun. Most people have perfectly good sunglass frames from the previous summer but may have worn the lenses a little and that's where The Sunglass Fix can help. We make sure you have the best quality, UV rated lenses in your sunglasses and can fit replacement lenses into just about any frame with two sunglass lenses. Check out our lens search engine to find your sunglass model. Don't worry if you don't find it we can still custom cut and install lenses into your sunglasses.

All women want to be loved and what better way to say ‘I Love You’ than to hand your special someone a pair of red hot heart shaped sunglasses. Not many of her girlfriends will have them so they're sure to stand out.

Yet they’ve been made famous recently with big name celebrities wearing them like Katy Perry, Nicole Ritchie, Avril Lavigne, Lady Gaga and Paris Hilton. What woman wouldn’t want to feel like they’ve got a bit of celebrity edge to them?

Rock glamour goddess, Katy Perry, looks funky and ready to steal hearts on Valentines Day with her red hot shades. The sweetheart glasses immediately add some playfulness and are just that little bit naughty, exactly how we all want to feel this February 14th!

Nicole Ritchie shows us how we can give them a more relaxed look and casually chic while strolling around shopping or down at the park with the little ones. The splash of red really makes your heart sing and add some sparkle into your day, and we can all use some light hearted spirit in our lives, especially on Valentines Day.

You can easily pick up a cute pair of these sweetheart sunglasses online. I noticed that a customer on the Urban Outfitters website commented that she liked them better than her Ray Bans!
