From the very beginning, we imagined of The Sunglass Fix as an environmentally sustainable business doing its part to solve a big need in the world; doing something about the hundreds of millions of sunglasses that end up in landfill every year. It’s a fact that around one billion pairs of sunglasses are purchased each year. Of these, we know about 30% are completely fixable. When you do the maths, that's a significant volume of completely unnecessary waste.
In 2019, we were recognised by APAC Insider as the Most Innovative Sunglass Replacement Lens Manufacturer. We were also chuffed to win the APAC Excellence Award in Environmental Sustainability.
It’s our belief that one of the best ways to create a better future is to have a light footprint by doing everything we can to protect our environment and by giving back to our communities. We're excited that more and more companies are embracing genuine sustainable and ethical practices. There's no better time than now for businesses to seize the initiative on environmental issues.
When we started The Sunglass Fix in 2006, we were a global innovator in developing the sunglasses replacement lens market. We continue to lead the way in pioneering practices today. By employing precision Polyamide lenses, sunglasses can now last a lot longer. Which is important, since one of the most effective ways for our throw-away lifestyle to change is if things are made to last.
Our unswerving commitment to being green is an intrinsic part of our personal lifestyle. As an environmentally sustainable company, it's also reflected in the way we run our business. That’s why we recycle, minimise waste, use solar panels and re-use everywhere we can.
Another way we contribute to a sustainable future is by giving back - to our local community and to charities. We sponsor local community and sporting groups, and every month, we give part of our profits to local and international charities like WWF and Greenpeace.
As a Sunglass Fix customer, your support means our sustainability journey will only get bigger and better, and that means the world to us.
What We're Doing
We produce more electricity than we consume with 25KW of photovoltaic panels on our roof, which should come in handy when we fulfil our plan and buy an electric vehicle. And of course, at the heart of what we do reduces waste going to landfill by helping people to reuse and repair their sunglasses.
We reuse everything we can, from the bubble wrap around the sunglasses you send us to the filtered water in our production machinery - which is supported by a minimum 20-year repair guarantee. And a lot of our office equipment is second hand, including the team kitchen which was recycled from, our Founder, Craig’s home.
Well before it was a 'thing', we were using recycled paper. In fact, we work hard to recycle almost everything possible, so that we produce as little waste as the average household. And, during any build project, we source recycled items and materials wherever we can.
The next time you’re thinking about throwing out your scratched or misshaped sunglasses, why not give them a new lease of life with The Sunglass Fix? You’ll discover we're better for your wallet and the environment.
